Beverly Joyce Stennes was born on May 21, 1933 to Roylard and Pearl (Johnson) Osmundson in Sacred Heart, MN. She grew up in the Sacred Heart area and attended Country School and later Sacred Heart High School. Following graduation she attended Mankato State Teacher’s College. She taught at Clarkfield Elementary, Ramsey Elementary in Montevideo and Renville Elementary. On August 23, 1959 she married Ernest Stennes. They farmed and raised a family together, having three children. Beverly also was called upon often to substitute teach for the Montevideo Schools. She also worked part-time at “The Yarn Corner” and Barwick Manufacturing. Bev finished her career in education as a Title I teacher at Ramsey Elementary for 13 years. After retirement she could be found volunteering in the schools, especially in her grandchildren’s classrooms.
Beverly and Ernie enjoyed traveling together with trips throughout the United States, a trip to Norway and many visits to Wisconsin. They also were active in activities with the Watson Lions Club including several national conventions. Family remembers very fondly the special times camping at Mill Lake with friends.
Bev enjoyed many hobbies and activities with friends and family. She was an active member of Watson Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed singing in the Sweet Adelines and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Bev enjoyed knitting, crocheting and other crafts as well as painting and stained glass art. She was a avid gardener, baker and reader. She participated in cross country skiing and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins.
When Bev’s friend Leo got a card club together she attended twice a week for many years. The card club would follow where Bev lived so they even came to Lutheran Haven to play cards when she moved there in 2014. By far her favorite activities were when she could spend time with her grandchildren playing cards, games and doing craft projects.
Bev is survived by her children: Deanne (Jim) Klang, Rice Lake, WI, Darlene (Terry) Spletter, Spicer, MN, and David (Lisa) Stennes, Montevideo, MN; grandchildren: Heather (Derek) Olson, Katie (Adam) Lee, Nathan (Ashley) Klang, Benjamin (Nicole) Klang, Joseph Klang (friend Clare Koopmans), Samantha (Wally) Stern, Cameron Stennes (friend Danae Milbrandt); step-grandchild, Nathan (Susie) Spletter; great-grandchild, Oliver Stern; step-great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and KyleeRae Spletter along with other extended family and friends.
