Birdella Harriet (Dvergsten) Jones was born on October 21, 1906 in Watson, MN  to Hans and Bertha (Thompson) Dvergsten.  She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church near Watson.  She attended school in Watson and graduated from Montevideo High School.  In September of 1949, Birdella was united in marriage to Sherman Franklin Jones.  They made their home on the Jones farm in Chippewa County and were members of Jevnaker Lutheran Church.  She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home since 1990. She will be remembered for her thick slices of homemade bread and bantam chickens that roamed her yard, but will be best remembered for the numerous crocheted afghans she made while living at Luther Haven.  She won several blue ribbons at the county fair and many of her afghans were given to the needy.

Birdella is survived by two sisters: Mildred Torstenson of Dawson, MN and Jeanette Ylvisaker of Sisters, OR; three sisters-in-law: Glenda Dvergsten of Watson, MN, Agnes Dvergsten of Clara City, MN and Leona Jones of Remer, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sherman in 1990; three sisters: Ida Talbert, Nora Andrews and an infant sister Mabel; three brothers: Harold and Julian Dvergsten and an infant brother Julian; and nieces and nephews.
