Blanche Lund, of St. Cloud and formerly of Dawson, died on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud at the age of 99. Funeral services was held at 1:30 PM, on Monday, December 7, 2009, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson, with Pastor Kendall Stelter and Pastor Lindsay Stolen officiating. Organist, Deb Lewis, accompanied Deb Breberg in singing How Great Thou Art and Just a Closer Walk With Thee and the congregation in singing, What a Friend We Have in Jesus, Softly and Tenderly and Great is Thy Faithfulness. The poem, Footprints, was read by Judy Hammer. Casketbearers were: Gary Berg, Gary Hoffman, Roger Hoffman, Diane Klaverkamp, Larry Murphy, and Deb Yorek. Interment was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Blanche Viola (Berg) Lund was born on October 9, 1910, in Comfrey, MN, to parents, Charles and Emma (Wallin) Berg. Blanche grew up on her parents family farm in the Comfrey area and attended and graduated from Comfrey High School. She went on to attend and graduate from the DeGuile School of Beauty Culture in Minneapolis. After graduation, she managed her own beauty shop for five years in Darfur. She met her future husband, Douglas W. Lund from Lafayette, MN, and on August 24, 1941, married him in St. James, MN. To that union, four children were born: Charles who died at age 2, Barry, Craig and Carla. They moved and made their home in Lafayette where Douglas owned and operated a hardware store, and then in 1949, they moved to Dawson where Douglas owned a heating, plumbing and air conditioning business until Douglas' death on January, 17, 1959. After the death of Douglas, Blanche continued to raise her three children, as well as continuing her hair styling business from her home in Dawson. She also pursued a new area of interest, that being to work as a florist at Snortum's Flowers, and did so for approximately 10 years. To her family, she was an amazing woman. She raised three children, worked two jobs, and also found time to enjoy gardening, playing cards with her many friends, cooking and baking, and numerous artistic hand and sewing projects. In addition, she was a member of the Masonic/Eastern Star in Dawson for several years. Blanche enjoyed traveling with her daughter to many sites in Minnesota and the surrounding states and enjoyed the company of her many friends. She will always be remembered for her witty personality and her love and generous nature with family and friends. Blanche is survived by her three children: Barry Lund of Dawson, Craig Lund of Sauk Rapids and Carla Lund of St. Cloud; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Mercedes Murphy. She lived the past nine years with her daughter, Carla, in St. Cloud, and together, they spent quality time with Craig and Barry, as well as visiting relatives, and many of Carla's friends. Preceding Blanche in death was her husband, Douglas; infant son, Charles; siblings: Bernice, Leone, Alvina, Florence, Sade and George; as well as her parents, Emma and Charles Berg.
