Blanche Ovrebo, 78, of Montevideo, died October 1, 1998 at Golden Years Country Living in Missoula, MT.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 6, 1998 at 1:30 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Timothy Lindhorst officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Visitation will be held Monday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo, with the family present from 5-7:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before services on Tuesday.
Blanche Sylvia (Nordseth) Ovrebo was born on January 25, 1920 in San Francisco, CA to Halfdan and Elizabeth Nordseth. She was baptized at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in San Francisco on August 1, 1920 by Rev. K. Stromme. She graduated from Balboa High School in 1937 and completed two years at San Francisco State College. On June 8, 1940 she was united in marriage to Victor Ovrebo. Vic attended Augsburg College and Luther Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, MN and Blanche worked for the college registrar’s office and the Home Mission Office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Blanche and Vic served parishes in Northwood, ND, Bagley, MN, Paradise, CA, Hayward, CA, Wadena, MN and Madison, MN. Blanche’s ministry in these parishes included work as a Sunday School teacher, choir director and church secretary. She was also active in church women’s activities and sang in choirs. Blanche and Vic made their retirement home in Montevideo, MN. They traveled to Norway and attended several Elderhostels across the United States. As an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she served on the church council and WELCA. and was a member in a local garden club. Blanche received recognition for her work as a volunteer advocate for Luther Haven Nursing Home through the Minnesota Ombudsman Program for Aging. She was also a board member of the Hospice Program. She enjoyed gardening, entertaining, and spending time with family and friends. Blanche moved to Missoula, MT in April of 1998 to be near her daughter, Carol Runyon and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church there. Her gracious spirit touched many people and she will be dearly missed by many.
Blanche is survived by daughters Carol Runyon and her husband Daniel of Missoula, MT; and Mary Ovrebo - Schultz and her husband David of Skaneateles, NY; a son - Kenneth Ovrebo and his wife Jody of Canon City, CO; four grandchildren - Dylan Vance of Portland, OR; and Evan, Elliott and Annah Schultz of Skaneateles, NY; 2 brothers-in-law - Rev. T.A. Thompsen of Alexandria, MN and Peder Dahl of Tacoma, WA; 3 sisters-in-law - Eva Ovrebo of Freeport, IL; Luella Ovrebo of Goleta, CA and Sigrid Ovrebo of Green Valley, AZ as well as by many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rev Victor Ovrebo on October 12, 1996; and by sisters - Olive Thompsen and Norma Dahl.
Memorials may be sent to the Hospice Program, The American Cancer Society, Global Missions or Trinity Lutheran Church.
