Carl Granrud, of Montevideo, died on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 91. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo
Carl Herbert Granrud was born on October 24, 1921 in Tunsberg Township of Chippewa County, MN to Harold and Theoline (Lund) Granrud. He was baptized in 1921 and confirmed in 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Watson, Mn by Rev. E.I. Strom. He attended grade school in the Danvers area and Watson and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1940. He farmed for several years in the Watson area before going to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1947. He worked for thirty-eight years in various departments of the company, retiring shortly after it became U.S. West in 1984. On June 20, 1948 he was united in marriage to Helen Anderson in Watson by Rev. O.J. Skrukrud. He was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo, serving on various boards, ushering and was Superintendent of the Sunday School for 2 ½ years. He served as commentator for the radio broadcasts of Our Saviors for several years. He served on the Montevideo City Council for eight years and was a Hospital Board representative for four years. In the 1960's he was a Graduate Assistant Instructor for Dale Carnegie Classes in Appleton, MN and was a member of the Historical Society, Community Concert Association and the Senior Citizens Community Group. He did volunteer work at the Luther Haven Nursing Home and enjoyed spectator sports, golfing, dancing, reading, fast pitch softball games, woodworking, home improvements and other do-it-yourself projects.
He is survived by his wife Helen; a foster daughter, Djuna Odegard - Fraser of Berkeley, CA and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a foster daughter, Robin Rae (Stevens) Bofferding.
