Carol Jean Evenson was born November 19, 1933 in rural Maynard, MN to Axel and Mabel (Ost) Syde.  She was baptized in 1945 at the age of 12 in the Maynard Baptist Church.  She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  She graduated from Maynard High School in 1951.  On August 4th, 1956 she was united in marriage to Raynold Evenson at the Maynard Baptist church.  They lived in Montevideo for a short period of time and then moved to Circle Pines, MN.   She worked as a bank teller in Minneapolis before she and Ray returned to Montevideo where she worked as a paraprofessional for the Montevideo School District #129 for 26 years; her love of children extended far beyond the classroom.

She was a long time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a faithful member of Martha’s Circle. Carol cherished her time with her family especially her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the time the family spent at her and Ray’s cabin on Lake Amelia and called it her “happy place”. Cruising on the pontoon was one of her favorite things to do. She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and never missed watching them on TV or listening to them on the radio. She was an incredible baker and cook, and loved cooking and baking for family and friends. There was rarely a time you went to their house that the homemade baked goods were not plentiful, and no one ever left their home hungry. Carol greeted everyone with a hug and never said goodbye to her family without also saying “I love you”.

She is survived by her two daughters, Deb (Neil) Larson and Denise (Keith) Bangsund both of Montevideo, and her son Brad (Sherri) Evenson of Long Prairie, MN; grandchildren: Kristi (Cory) Stanley, Beth (Josh) Dack, both of Montevideo, Leesa Larson (and fiance Tyler Novotny) of St. Cloud, Brock Bangsund of Sioux Falls, Jenna Bangsund of Montevideo, Austin Evenson and Jaden Evenson of Long Prairie; great-grandchildren: Brynn, Raegan, Ross and Maryn Stanley; Cooper, Brody and Jase Dack; sisters: June (Winsel) Christenson and Arlys Flaa; sisters-in-law: Margorie Evenson, Violet Jerve, LaVina Evenson, Mardell (Keith) Kennedy and Shirley Evenson; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raynold; a great-grandson, Colson Dack; sister, Audrey Rache; brothers: Dale Syde and Donald Syde; and several brother and sister-in-laws.
