Carol “Tootie” Olson, of Milan, died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN at the age of 84.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday August 24, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Kristine Isder officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo on Saturday, August 23rd from 5:00-7:00pm and one hour prior to services at the church.
Carol Marie (Thompson) Olson was born on December 26, 1929 in Dawson, MN to Harry and Alma (Erickson) Thompson. She had a sister, Audrey, and two brothers, Harlan and Terry. She was baptized in March of 1930 and confirmed on June 27, 1943 at Providence Valley Lutheran Church, rural Dawson.
Carol attended Madison High School and graduated in 1947. She worked in Montevideo for a short time until she was united in marriage to Russell O. Olson of Milan on September 4, 1949. The couple farmed most of their life near Milan, with the exception of a few years near Dawson. They raised five children: James, Jane, Connie, Charlotte, and Jeffrey. She was a bookkeeper and worked at People’s State Bank for many years. Tootie was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church, was active in her church and enjoyed serving others.
She served on the synod WELCA board for several years. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, knitting, embroidery, and quilting. She belonged to the Monte-Milan Club, the Milan sewing club, and the Carol Olson club. Tootie also was a part of a card-playing group and a bridge club. Her greatest joy was loving and doing things for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Jane (Gary) Boraas of Madison, MN; Connie (Pastor Tim) Larson of Willmar, MN; Charlotte (Craig) Strand of Milan, MN and Jeffrey (Cynthia) Olson of Chanhassen, MN; twelve grandchildren: Dr. Christy (Adam) Boraas Alsleben, Erik Boraas, Andrea (Fiancé Vince Workman) Larson, Jonathan Larson, Elizabeth (Craig) Lachowitzer, R.J., Kelby, Rachel and Lucas Strand, Siri, Teigen and Annika Olson; two great-grandsons: Russell Alsleben and Percy Lachowitzer; two sisters-in-law: Lois Ludvigson of Dawson, MN and Janet (Arlo) Tostenson of Milan, MN; as well as by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her son, James; her husband, Russell in 2009; a sister, Audrey Jordahl; two brothers, Harlan and Terry Thompson; her in-laws: Ole and Annie (Johnson) Olson; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Grossman.
