Charles Borgendale, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, December 16, 1998 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 79.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, December 19 at 1:30 PM at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter with Rev. Steve Rheingans officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Charles Edward Borgendale was born on March 26, 1919 in Baxter Township of Lac Qui Parle Co., Minnesota to Charles and Anna (Anderson) Borgendale. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviours Lutheran of Baxter and attended school at District #3 in Lac Qui Parle Co. He attended schools in Madison for his freshman year and started his sophomore year in Dawson, where he graduated from Dawson High School in 1937. He began farming with his Dad and served in the state guard. On September 3, 1944 he was united in marriage to Rosanna Stoick in Appleton, MN. To this union were born 3 children - Russell, Catheryn and Gary. Following Rosanna’s death in 1966, he was united in marriage to Iona Nordaune on December 14, 1968 at Our Saviours Lutheran of Baxter. Following Iona’s death in 1971 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Beninga on January 8, 1972 at Our Saviours Lutheran of Baxter. He farmed in Lac Qui Parle Co. until 1980. He moved to Madison, MN in December of 1984, to Montevideo in August of 1988 and had become a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home on December 7th of this year. He was a lifelong member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church and had held several church offices. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, was a 4H leader, and enjoyed over 10 years as a school bus driver for Dawson-Boyd Schools.
He is survived by his wife - Lorraine; by children - Russell Borgendale and his wife Jeannine of Coon Rapids, MN; Catheryn Hanson of Kent, WA; and Gary Borgendale and his wife Laurie of Mounds View, MN; grandchildren - Leigha Jansen and her husband Mark; Michael Borgendale; Daniel Call and his wife Tiffany; Dean Call and his wife Chris; Darrell Call; Lindsay Borgendale; Ashley Borgendale; Kelsey Borgendale and Chase Borgendale; great grandchildren - Kate Jansen; Jesslyn, Madison and Dylan Call;by sisters - Lillian Simpson of Sioux Falls, SD; Alice (Stub) Danielson of Dawson; Gladys Boxrud of Willmar; Dorothy (Andy) Hendrickson of Montevideo; Phyllis (Clarence) Saltee of Canby; by a brother-in-law - Ted Kleinsasser of Alcoa, TN; as well as by a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives - Rosanna and Iona; brothers - Harold and Arden Borgendale; a sister - Mabel Kleinsasser; and brothers-in-law - Robert Simpson; Elliot Boxrud and Ferris Welch.
