Charles Erickson

November 21, 1927 — February 7, 2016

Charles Erickson, of Montevideo, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 88.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13,  2016 at 1:30 PM  at Our Saviour’s of Baxter  Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo with Vicar Matt Danielson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.  Visitation  will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Charles Erickson was born in Montevideo on November 21, 1927 to Carl and Ella (Hemstad) Erickson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter.   He attended country school near Montevideo.  Charles went to work on the farm helping his mother with the farm work.  On November 25, 1948 Charles was united in marriage to Delores Behrens.  Together they raised five children.

Charles’ passion was farming and he spent time working on conservation farming and wildlife habitat before it was popular.  He was a lifetime member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter and served as the custodian along side Delores  from 1982 to 2006.   Charles was  active in the Watson Lions Club and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow award for dedicated humanitarian service from Lions Club International in 1996.  He enjoyed deer hunting, watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and high school sports.  His family will remember Charles as a person who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years, Delores; his children, Gail (Lloyd) Olson of Mission, TX, Wayne (Karen) Erickson of Montevideo, Barb (Rod) Pederson, of Montevideo, Dick (Lori) Erickson of Dawson, and Brenda (Butch) Berends of Montevideo; 12 grandchildren: Michael Olson, Cory Olson, Aaron Erickson, Mikaela Erickson, Brad (Amy) Pederson, Brent (Amanda) Pederson, Ross (Carissa) Pederson, Krista (Dan) Gurgel, Rochelle (Jim) Anderson, Tyler Erickson, Tracy (Brandon) Maher, and Troy Berends; 17 great grandchildren; Grant and Katelynn Olson, Dalton, Mason, Addisyn, Ali, Brooklyn, Emersyn, and Gage Pederson, Micah and Marissa Gurgel, Lucas, Samantha and Maci Anderson, Reese and Briggs Maher, and  Brody Berends; sisters; Mildred Lanes, Alice (Jim) Wehrkamp, Marian (Orgean) Storlien and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Kyle Erickson and a brother-in-law Lyle Lanes.
