Charles Skordahl

September 12, 1931 — August 20, 2013

Charles “Chuck” Skordahl, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 81.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24, at 10:30 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson  with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating.  Interment will be in Grace Lutheran  Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7:00 P.M. at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson and at the church for one hour before services on Saturday.

Charles “Chuck” William Skordahl was born September 12, 1931 in Madison, MN the son of Oscar and Celia (Anderson) Skordahl.  He was baptized and confirmed at the Ness Church in Madison, MN.  He attended rural Arena Township  country school  through the 8th grade and graduated from Madison High School in 1949.  He also graduated from Midwest Banking Institute at the University of Morris, MN.  He joined the Madison National Guard at Madison and was deployed in 1951 during the Korean Conflict.  He spent time at Camp Rucker, AL. and Fort Hood, TX.  On May 28, 1955 he was united in marriage to Beverly Neraasen at Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson, MN.  He farmed for several years, and was manager of the Lismore SD Grain Elevator and later GTA Elevator at Madison, Mn.  In 1958 he joined the Northwestern State Bank of Dawson.  He retired as Vice President of MinnWest Bank of Dawson in 1987.   He served as Dawson City Treasurer for 39 years and was on the Dawson Library board.  He also was on several boards at Riverside and Grace Lutheran Church.  He was an active parental volunteer  in the Boy Scouts  and became a member of the Order of the Arrow with his son Gary who became an Eagle Scout.  Chuck was a member of  the American Legion for 62 years.  He also delivered meals on wheels.

Over the years he enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, and especially golf.  In 1995 he made a hole in one on Hole # 8 at the Dawson Golf Course. He enjoyed dancing, camping, spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their school activities. In retirement they have taken many bus trips and have been to Mexico, Canada, Norway and Sweden.  On their 25th anniversary they went to Hawaii.  In later years he enjoyed country music, watching TV and visits from family and friends. He entered the Johnson Memorial Care Center in December of 2011 and remained there until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Sandy (Rick) Odden of Dawson; two sons: Gary (Lynn) Skordahl of Willmar and David (Jolene) Skordahl of Woodbury; 9 grandchildren: Adam Skordahl, Christopher (Bria) Skordahl, Britta Skordahl; Alissa Jurgenson, Cameron (Kirsten) Jurgenson, Kelsey Jurgenson, Nicole Jurgenson; Paige Skordahl, Dane Skordahl; 3 step-granddaughters: Chasity (Bjorn) Odden-Heide, Angie (Jason) Young, and Heather (Carl) Larson; 3 step great-grandchildren: Carter and Evelyn Young, and Henrik Odden-Heide;  a sister, Dorothy Bjurman of Richfield, a niece, Jeanne (Keith) Bartelme and son Jacob of Carver and a nephew, Steve Bjurman of Richfield.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his in-laws, Peter and Inga Neraasen; and brother-in-law, Harvey Bjurman.
