Chester Orville Rud

September 4, 1921 — December 28, 2005

Montevideo

Chester Rud, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the Chippewa County- Montevideo Hospital at the age of 84.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at 1:30 PM  at Jevnaker Lutheran Church with Rev. Gregory Gabriel officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening, with the family present from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, all at  the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Chester Orville Rud was born on September 4, 1921 in Chippewa County, MN  to Lawrence and Minnie (Nokleby) Rud. He was baptized in and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church and attended rural school at District 31.  He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific. On June 25, 1950, he was united in marriage to  Marlyn Svor at Mandt Lutheran Church. They lived in rural Montevideo, where he farmed until retiring about 20 years ago.  They moved into Brookside Manor in Montevideo on November 1, 2005. He was a lifelong member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church, serving as a Deacon, Trustee and Treasurer    He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, and enjoyed coffee times with the World War II veterans group.  He enjoyed volunteering at Luther Haven, delivering meals on wheels, woodworking, planting trees, playing cards, traveling, collecting Avon bottles and loving his family.
He is survived by his wife, Marlyn; three children: Jane Rud of Rota, Spain, Jerome Rud and his wife Agnes of Greencastle, IN and Judy White and her husband Jim of Apple Valley, CA; three grandchildren: Randy and Patrick  Rud and Kaitlyn White; a brother, Leslie Rud and his wife Irene of Montevideo, MN; a sister, Ruby Olson of Montevideo, MN, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Rud of Montevideo as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ole Rud;  a sister, Cora Thompson and two brothers-in-law, Orville Thompson and Elwood Jones.
