Chris Ardell Femrite was born June 30, 1965 in Montevideo MN to George Jr. and Nancy Jean Humboldt Femrite. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson MN. His elementary and high school years were at Dawson Boyd Schools graduating in 1983. He attended Willmar VoTech, graduating in 1986 with both mechanics and diesel mechanics degrees. Chris was employed as a mechanic at Tjosvold Equipment, Mooney’s Construction, Duininck Inc. and the LqP County Highway Department. He then started farming with his dad growing beans, corn and alfalfa hay. At one time Chris had pigs, beef cattle and buffalo with his many horses. He continued farming his dad’s land and his own until his death. Chris was a former member of the Minnesota Valley Alfalfa Board and a current member of the Riverside Township Board.
Chris enjoyed being with his family, spending many hours with the horses that he loved. He rode with the Dawson Trailriders Club, participating in Oellien’s St. Jude’s Labor Day fundraiser ride and camping at the LqP County Park. He was a member of the LqP County Park Board and participated in the Haunted Hayride fundraiser. Chris enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling with friends in northern MN. In late fall, he and his dad, George Jr., used muzzle loaders to hunt deer with the Bergeson’s along the LqP River and Florida Creek. As a youngster, he and the Femrite cousins fished and hunted ducks, spending hours along the river and Ethelyn’s slough just playing and rafting. The cousins had a knack for making something from nothing, enjoying every minute of making things work…a Femrite thing! Chris continued tinkering and rebuilding things, repairing trucks and farm machinery as an adult. He was a private person never wanting to bother anyone else but willing to help others. He will be missed by many, young and old.
Chris was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, George Sr. and Gladys Femrite and Cliff and Marie Humboldt. He is survived by his parents: George Jr. and Nancy; a sister, Tanya Marie, Tasia and her daughters Brooklynn and Valkyrie; aunts, uncles and cousins; all remembering the wonderful times they spent with him on the farm.
