Tucson

Christopher Nerison died March 29, 2024 in Tucson, AZ at the age of 69.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo at 2:00 PM.  Arrangements are with Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home.

Chris Nerison was born on October 31st, 1954 to Curtis G. Nerison and Margaret F. (Caldwell) Nerison in Montevideo.  He joined his siblings, Beth and Jane.   He spent his childhood years growing up in Montevideo.  He graduated from high school in 1972.  He spent some time at the University of Minnesota where he met Carol Gold.  During summers, Chris went to Alaska where he joined a more senior commercial fisherman and learned the secrets of the trade.  While in Alaska, Chris reunited with Carol and they welcomed Erik into their lives.  Chris eventually bought a  boat of his own and operated a commercial fishing business for 23 years.  The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill made commercial fishing much harder to earn a living for many people in Alaska including Chris.

He returned to Minneapolis in the early 90s and lived with his sister Beth for a full year to help her recover from a stroke.  During that time he met Kim and they were married. While in Minnesota, Chris began working for the Deaton Kennedy Company, traveling the northwest United States visiting funeral homes.  Chris really did not relish the idea of traveling every week, but he put his ”alone time” to good use.  He completed his undergraduate degree through an on-line education program offered by the University of Arizona. He later created a candle company which he marketed to the funeral homes through which he was already connected.  He sold this company when he decided to retire.

Chris found his final home after Alaska in Spokane.  For many years in Spokane, Chris also played an active role supporting social and environmental issues.  During retirement Chris met Peggy Grant and they enjoyed many good times together.  Chris also found great comfort in Buddhism, and he spent considerable time training  and later leading classes in meditation.  In the last year of his life, he built a kayak and was able to have a “maiden voyage” with his creation.

Left to remember are his son and fiance: Erik and Melissa, aunt Jodie Wallschlaeger, Peggy Grant, special friends and many cousins.

Preceding Chris were his parents, and sisters, Beth and Jane.
