Clara Evenson, 93, of Dawson, died October 11, 1998 at the Madison Lutheran Home in Madison.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 14, 1998 at 2:00 P.M. at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church, rural Dawson. Rev. Dale Gilhoi and Rev. Paulus Pilgrim will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Clara Irene (Bjornlie) Evenson was born November 23, 1904 in Lac Qui Parle Township the daughter of Hans and Gunda (Hanson) Bjornlie. She attended grade school in District #7 in Lac Qui Parle Township and graduated from Dawson High School. She was baptized and confirmed in Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church. Clara later took a course in nurses training and obtained her degree as an LPN. She worked as LPN in the Madison Lutheran Home when it first opened and later moved to Watertown, SD where she operated a small private nursing home with her sister, Gladys. After they sold the home, Clara went to work as a nurse at Jenkins Memorial Home in Watertown and other places. She married Jens Evenson on June 10, 1962. They lived in Watertown until Jens died February 5, 1978. After his death, Clara sold her home and moved into an apartment and continued to work as a nurse until her retirement. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of Watertown. Clara moved to the Madison Lutheran Home on September 26, 1990 and spent the last eight years of her life as a resident there.
She is survived by one sister, Priscilla (Irville) Olson of Lyle, MN; one brother, Reuben (Donna) Bjornlie of Dawson, MN; one sister-in-law, Edith Bjornlie of Dawson, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jens; two brothers: Olaf and Harold Bjornlie; and six sisters: Carrie Erickson, Hilda Erickson, Agnes Skoien, Inga Likness, Gladys Helseth, and Sylvia Bjornlie.
