Clarice Sweno, of Milan, died Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Appleton Nursing Home at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. Rev. Kristine Isder will officiate and interment will be in the Kviteseid Lutheran - Milan Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-7:00 PM at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo and at the church for one hour before the funeral on Tuesday.
Clarice Dorothea (Bartz) Sweno was born on April 22, 1925 to William and Edna (Schwartz) Bartz on a farm northeast of Appleton, MN. She was baptized May 10, 1925. She started school at Shible Lutheran Church through the third grade. The family moved to a farm west of Lake Oliver and so she attended District 22 from 4-6 grade and then to Appleton High School. After 9th grade Clarice worked on the farm and then later worked for friends and neighbors doing housework.
Clarice was a hard worker and held jobs at Doege’s Café and Bakery, Ben Franklin store, Shorty’s Café , and National Tea Grocery. She married Raymond Sweno on August 26, 1951 at Shible Lutheran Church and they made their home in Milan for over 51 years. Clarice was a stay at home mom when their three boys were growing up. When the boys were grown Clarice worked for Raymond and Winnie Strand in the hardware store. When she was not working Clarice enjoyed working outside in her garden. She canned vegetables and fruit sauces. She enjoyed cooking, baking, cleaning, making quilts, embroidery and sewing. Family was very important to her and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She entered the Appleton Nursing Home in June of 2003.
Clarice is survived by her sons: Gary (Judy) Sweno of Montevideo and Mark and friend Deanna of Madison; grandchildren: Kelly Farrand, Jessica Sweno, Kristin Hoppe, Derick (Ashley) Sweno; great-grandchildren: Kara and Emily Farrand, Brandon and Kaitlin Sulier, Mark Hoppe, and Brooke, Devin and Collin Sweno; sister, Lois Bergman of Appleton; sister-in-law, Marlys Bartz of Appleton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond in 2003; son, Roger in 1997; brother DeWayne Bartz; and brother-in-law Laurence Bergman.
