Clarice Velde, of Clarkfield, Minnesota, passed away on November 16, 2016 at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 84.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 11 AM at Clarkfield Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Wilms officiating. Interment will be at the Clarkfield Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 20, from 3 - 5 PM at Clarkfield Lutheran Church (with a prayer service at 4 PM) and at the church one hour before services Monday.
Clarice Marjorie (Gustad) Velde was born February 26, 1932 in Storden, Minnesota, to Clifford and Mary (Mattison) Gustad. She was baptized at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church in rural Storden, MN, confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church, and attended high school in Appleton, MN, graduating in 1950. She married John Velde, on February 2, 1952, at Big Bend Lutheran Church. John and Clarice lived and farmed south of Clarkfield until 2011, when they moved into Clarkfield.
She treasured spending time with her family, and living in the country watching animals, birds, and crops grow. Over the years, Clarice enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, Bunco, and was involved in the Clarkfield Garden Club, Classic Car Club, and the Monoco Motorhome Club. Avid travelers, John and Clarice spent over 48 years traveling throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Norway.
A smiling friend to all, Clarice will be fondly remembered for her kindness, hard work ethic, excellent cooking, and making people laugh with her jokes and quick wit.
Clarice is survived by her husband of 64 years, John; five children: Lynn (Jim) Peterson of Starbuck, MN; Kathy (Sheldon) Kittelson of Clarkfield, MN; LeAnn Velde of Lino Lakes, MN; Judy (Mike) Weiss of Bloomington, MN; and Dean Velde of San Diego, CA.; 7 grandchildren: Andrea (Adam) Nedry; Kevin Kittelson; Andrew Kittelson; Meagan (Allen) Mareck; Lauren Velde; Ryan and Jack Weiss; 2 great-grandchildren: Jakob and Mikayla Nedry; a sister, Connie (Vern) Lein of Boyd, MN; and brothers, Orvis (Connie) Gustad of Grand Junction, CO; Dudley (Diane) Gustad of Colorado City, CO; sister-in-laws Charlene and Joan Gustad, and brother-in law Cliff (Gwen) May; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding her in death were her parents; infant daughter, Roxane (1955); sisters: Ruth (Wally) Olson, Marlene (Darryl) Shaw, and Carol May; and brothers: Russell and Rodney Gustad.
