Clayton Isaac Kiefer

Clayton Keifer, 86, of Montevideo died February 18, 1998 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 21, 1998 at 1:30 P.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Wayne D. Kopitzke  officiated and interment was at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Clayton Isaac Keifer was born April 12, 1911 at Lyons, NE the son of Isaac and Clara (Reich) Keifer.  They moved to Montevideo in 1920, he graduated from the Morris Ag School in 1929 and served in the National Guard in 1930.  Clayton was united in marriage with Hazel Marholz July 24, 1933 at Watertown, SD.  He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for many years and then formed Keifer Bros. Construction with his brothers.  They did mostly township graveling and he retired in 1977.  During this time, he also had a Christmas Tree business serving the local community and included trees to the local churches.  Clayton was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and a former board member.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; three sons: Clayton and his wife Marlys of Lewiston, ID, Dwaine and his wife Karen of Montevideo, MN, and Robert and his wife Kim of Hugo, MN; one daughter, Sharon Ellefson and her husband Dennis of Bellevue, IA; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers: Harold and Lester.
