Cleo Schaller

June 9, 1912 — February 12, 2009

Cleo Schaller, formerly of Maynard,MN, died on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, MN at the age of 96. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at the Maynard Lutheran Church with pastor John Runyan officiating. Interment will be in the Leenthrop Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Cleo Marvilla (Evans) Schaller was born on June 9, 1912 in Linn Grove, Iowa to John and Mabel (Jeppeson) Evans. They moved to a farm north of Maynard, MN when she was 5 years old.. She attended school at District #32 and graduated from Maynard High School in 1929. She attended St. Cloud Teachers College and taught school in several rural districts. On July 12, 1936 she was united in marriage to Roy Schaller at the home of her parents. They lived in Browns Valley for a year before returning to farm near Maynard. In 1980 they retired from farming and built a home in Maynard. She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home since October of 2005.She had been a member of the Maynard Baptist Church and its Mission Circle and Pioneer Girls, the Maynard Garden Club, homemakers and birthday groups and was a 4-H leader. She was a true horticulturist, enjoying gardening, plants and trees, as well as sewing, canning and picking wild blueberries in Ontario. She is survived by two children: Gary Schaller and his wife Beverly of Maynard, MN and Diane Ostergren and her husband Greg of Springfield, MO; a daughter-in-law, Denise Schaller of Minneapolis, MN; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild; sisters: Ardis Sanner and Beverly (Walter) Ashmore of Minneapolis, MN as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roy in 1987; a son, Duane and by a sister, Selma Nelson.
