Cora Gillis, of Montevideo, died Sunday, April 13, 1997 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 17, 1997 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Lois Knutson officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Cora A. (Peterson) Gillis was born on November 23, 1903 in Chippewa County, MN to Hans G. and Caroline (Molden) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, MN and attended rural schools. She was united in marriage to Harold Gillis on November 25, 1928 at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, MN. They moved to Montevideo in 1932 and she has lived there since. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, was active in its women's groups and was a charter member of the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Degree of Honor, Homemakers, served as an election judge and enjoyed making lefse, quilting and sewing. She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for just the past three weeks.
She is survived by one son, Joseph Gillis and his wife Verna of Colorado Springs, CO; two daughters: June Hestad and her husband Robert of Edina, MN and Lois Zaugg and her husband Everett of Murdo, SD; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a close family friend, Joyce Anderson of Montevideo..
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1991; one grandson, Bruce Gillis; eight brothers; and one sister.
