Dale Norman, Sartell, formerly of Montevideo died on Friday, September 24, 2021 at St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 89.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter with Rev. Matt Danielson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 6 to 8 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service beginning at 7:30PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.
Dale Burton Norman was born May 29th, 1932 to Bennie and Annie (Person) Norman in Montevideo. He was baptized and confirmed at Saron Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. When he was 8 years old he survived the polio pandemic but spent 1 year in Minneapolis at Sister Kenny. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1950. Even though he had challenges with polio he was able to return to school and be valedictorian of his class. Following graduation he returned to Minneapolis to extend his education in accounting at the Minnesota School of Business. After receiving his degree he returned to Montevideo and did accounting for several businesses. In 1983 he became the Deputy Treasurer of Chippewa County and he retired from that position in 1996.
On October 2 1982 he married Sonja (Hermanson) Willand at Baxter Lutheran Church. Dale’s extended family included Sonja’s three children: David, Arlan, and Diane. They lived in Montevideo until 2017 when they moved to Sartell to be closer to the children and doctors. In 2019 Dale became a resident of Country Manor in Sartell.
Dales enjoyment in life was restoring antique tractors. In all, Dale restored 18 tractors. He was involved with Minnesota Valley Antique Farm Power and Machinery Association serving as treasurer and secretary of the club for a number of years. Dale and his cousin Doug enjoyed taking their tractors and gas engines to shows around the state, including the Minnesota State Fair.
Dale is survived by his wife, Sonja; step-children: David (Debbie) Willand, Arlan (Karen) Willand, Diane (Dean) Hahn; seven grandchildren: Will, James, Shayna, Miranda, Lucas, Emily, Andrew; two great-grandchildren: Liam and Lillyanna; as well as other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and aunts and uncles.
