Daniel Buchanan died Monday, March 17, 2025 at his home in Watson at the age of 76.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Watson Evangelical Church in Watson.
Daniel John Buchanan was born on May 6, 1948, in Bertha, MN, the son of Charles and Ella (McDonald) Buchanan. He grew up and attended school in the Hewitt/Wadena area. Dan was a member of the Youth Corps in Ely, MN, before moving to Fairmont, ND, where he worked as a farmhand. He then moved to Montevideo, where he worked for A & B Industries, installing insulation.
In 1981, Dan moved to Bullhead City and worked in construction and as a chef at Regency Casino in Laughlin, Nevada. He also worked for JAM Janitorial Services at the Southern California Edison Power Plant in Laughlin. Later, he moved to Arizona with friends and then returned to Watson, MN, in 1995.
On New Year's Eve in 2006, he received a call about a kidney transplant and underwent the procedure shortly thereafter.
Dan had many interests. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and baking. He also carved diamond willow canes and loved searching for arrowheads. He had a passion for John Deere lawn tractors and mowed several lawns in Watson.
He is survived by two sisters: Joan Bakken of Plymouth, MN, and Kathy (Norm) Whitaker of DeSmet, SD; two brothers: Robert (Gail) Buchanan of Watson, MN, and Bill (Carolyn) Buchanan of Grand Rapids, MN; as well as nieces and nephews: Toni, Jason, Allen, Wayne, Monica, Heidi, Allen, David, Robert, Sandi, and Amber. Additionally, he is survived by numerous great-nieces and great-great-nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pat Jacobsen; and a great-niece, Grace Buchanan.
