Danny Ohlenkamp died Monday, March 19, 2018 at his home in Dawson at the age of 71.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate and interment will be at Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Danny Leo Ohlenkamp, a twin baby to his sister, Diane, was born on February 12, 1947 in Slayton, MN to Clarence and Darlene (Nelson) Ohlenkamp. He was baptized on March 23, 1947 and confirmed on June 3, 1962 at Florida Lutheran Church in rural Canby, MN. He grew up in Slayton and attended Slayton schools. The family moved to a farm north of Canby and he finished his senior year at Canby High School, graduating in 1965. He entered into the National Guard. He spent 6 years serving his country and was discharged in December 1971. He drove school bus for Canby and also worked at Burr Elevator until 1969. He then worked at Dawson Ag and later Montevideo Cenex Fertilizer Company.
He married Elaine Streich on August 3, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in Madison, MN. They had one son, Mark Dan Ohlenkamp, born in 1977. Dan and Elaine spent many years fishing in Canada and at Lake Minnewaska. He taught Sunday School at Florida Lutheran in Canby. Dan also enjoyed hunting and golfing. Dan loved spending time with family and loved the time he was able to spend with his new granddaughter, Danielle Grace.
Dan is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Mark (Mindy) Ohlenkamp of St. Cloud, MN; granddaughter, Danielle Grace Ohlenkamp; two brothers: Roy (Dianne) Ohlenkamp of Mounds View, MN and Terry (Ketarina) Ohlenkamp of Sioux Falls, SD; three sisters: Diane (Dick) Menken of Minneota, MN, Karen Kockelman of St. Leo, MN and Shirley (Ken) Campbell of Enid, OK; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Darlene Ohlenkamp; step-mother, Elfrieda Ohlenkamp; nephew, Terry Lee; and brother-in-law, Silve Kockelman.
