Darrell O. Anderson "Andy" of Montevideo died on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 while receiving hospice and respite care at the Appleton Health Services at the age of 79.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.

Darrell Orvis Anderson, known as "Andy," was born on June 11, 1945, in St. Cloud to Orvis and Gladys (Scheel) Anderson. The family lived in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, until Andy was 12 years old, then moved to Canby, MN. Andy attended and graduated from Canby High School in 1963. He married Marian M. Ouverson on July 10, 1965.

In 1966, Andy joined the United States Army, serving as an Army Medic Specialist 6 in Vietnam. During his time in the Army, Andy and Marian lived in Texas and Washington. After Andy was discharged in 1969, the couple moved to Duluth, where Andy pursued business and accounting degrees at UMD. While attending college, he worked the night shift at St. Luke’s Hospital.

They were blessed with a daughter, Angela, and later made their home in Kerrick, MN, where Andy worked at the State Hospital in Moose Lake. The family then moved to Montevideo, where Andy became the administrator of Brookside Manor, a position he held for 12 years. He continued his nursing career at the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Project Turnabout in Granite Falls, and ultimately retired from nursing after working at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield, Minnesota.

Andy was extremely proud of his service in the Army, and he continued to serve his community in various roles, including volunteering with "Let’s Go Fishing," Hospice, as an Election Judge, and with the Bloodmobile. He also enjoyed being "Grandpa Darrell" at Ramsey Elementary School. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo, Andy served on the Call Committee and the Stewardship Board. Andy was also a proud Life member of the Montevideo VFW and a member of the Montevideo American Legion.

Andy cherished the "O" family farm, Marian’s grandparents' and parents' farm. Though not a farmer himself, he loved the farm just as much as Marian’s father did. He could often be found mowing the lawn, cutting down dead trees, working in the shop, or spending time hunting in the pasture. He enjoyed hunting trips for elk, bear, and deer. In the spring, his ritual at home was planting roses, potted geraniums, and begonias around the front yard.

Andy was also passionate about class reunions in Canby and served on several reunion committees for the Class of 1963. He would visit Rice, MN, reconnecting with family and cousins where they reminisced about old memories. Above all, Andy cherished the love of his family and enjoyed attending family reunions to spend time with his extended relatives.

Andy is survived by his wife, Marian; daughter, Angela (Matt) Schrader, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Erin Schrader of Omaha, NE and Adam Schrader of Fargo, ND; siblings: Vern (Pam) Anderson of Dawson, Steve (Robin) Anderson of Iowa City, Connie (Ron) Nuebel of Northfield, MN; sister-in-law, Barb (Ouverson) Severson of Rosemount, MN; godchild: Melanie Bahl of Montevideo; and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Lee and Zona Ouverson; and brother-in-law, Wayne Ouverson.
