David was born September 7, 1937, to Alvin and Geneva (Holmes) Offerman in Mankato, MN.  He was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He lived in Marshall until he was nine, when the family moved to Montevideo. David was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He graduated from Montevideo Senior High School in 1955. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Poultry Husbandry in 1960. He joined his Dad at Offerman Hatchery and became a business partner, involved in sales and instrumental in expanding the business. He was the sole provider and raised his family through many trials and tribulations, which is often the life of a farmer. He had close, special relationships with many of his employees and co-workers, and also around the state in the poultry business. He was treasurer for the Minnesota Poultry Board for many years. He was a mentor to many and enjoyed helping others learn and succeed in the business and life. At age 85, he decided that he had done his last shift of putting out baby chicks. He retired from active farmwork though still went out every day to the office to check on things while he was still able to.

He joined the Montevideo Fire Department, where he held a variety of different jobs as well as being Chief. He was an active member for 39 years. No matter what David was doing, as soon as that pager went off, he was out the door to help someone in need. He was in charge of the Firemen’s legendary chicken BBQ during Montevideo Fiesta, grilling the chicken with his secret recipe. He liked to hunt, fish, golf, spend time with friends at local establishments and attended many of his daughters and grandkids concerts and activities. In his free time, he enjoyed working on the restoration of his 1950 Packard. He enjoyed the cabin life for many years at Lake Minnewaska and Lake Amelia. We all have many fond memories of times at the lake, especially the annual 4th of July Offerman Family reunion held at his brother Dean and sister-in-law Noreen’s cabin.

David married the love of his life Joyce Hildahl on September 14, 1963, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. They lived in Montevideo their entire married life and raised three wonderful daughters. They enjoyed snowmobile adventures, trips to Sunny Point resort in Park Rapids, Sunday drives, Fireman dances and events, and spending time with their children, grandchildren, family and friends. They did many things together and helped balance each other out throughout the years. Joyce provided a loving home and support and David was the ultimate provider and fierce protector of his wife and children.

He was the center of our family and was like a Superhero to us all. He will be dearly missed.

David is survived by his wife of 61 years Joyce, children Andrea (Sam) Bellig of Battle Lake, Jenny (Jim) Schuster of Fargo, ND and Heather (Michael) Johnson of Edina; brother Dean (Noreen) Offerman of Arlington, Texas; nine grandchildren, Sara (Cody) Seedorf, Caleb, Abby and Anna Bellig; Mia and Nathaniel Schuster; Isabelle, Marshall and Marcus Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sibling Dale Offerman, and children Nathan and Jason Offerman.
