David Tengwall

March 20, 1930 — November 8, 2013

David Tengwall, of Maynard, died on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar at the age of 83.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Maynard Lutheran Church in Maynard with Rev. Kathy Skoglund officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.


David Thorvald Tengwall was born on March 20, 1930 in Kandiyohi Co, MN to Robert and Jane (Dengerud) Tengwall.  He was baptized and confirmed in Kandiyohi Co and attended rural schools. On August 18, 1950 he was united in marriage to Joyce Fokken at the Crow River Lutheran Church parsonage in New London, MN. He worked on a farm near New London for two years before serving in the US Army in Korea. Upon his discharge in 1954, he settled in Clara City, where he did construction work and became a school custodian.  He worked as a custodian in Maynard for 37 years until retiring in 1996. He served as a fireman in Maynard for many years, served as fire chief and was a city policeman.  He was a member of the Maynard Lutheran Church, Maynard American Legion Post, and was a lifetime member of the Granite Falls VFW Post.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, Norwegian foods, telling a good joke, visiting with people and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.


He is survived by his wife, Joyce; five children: Marilyn Fountain of Maple Grove, MN; John (and Charlene) Tengwall of Champaign, IL; Marsha (and Victor) Plante of Maynard; Mary (and Bill) Kneisl of Maynard and Jim (and Laurie) Tengwall of Sioux Falls, SD; ten grandchildren: Sarah (and Aaron), Jeremy (and Lana), Jamie (and Clara), Angela, Joseph (and Reese), Wyatt, Kayla, Allison, Chantel and Alex; three great grandchildren: Madilynne, Monica, and Reagan; a step-brother, Wellington Nelson of New London, MN; a brother-in-law, Gordon Berghuis of Grove City, MN; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Tengwall of Willmar, MN and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Reuben Tengwall; and a sister, Borghild Berghuis.
