Dean Calvin Trygstad

Montevideo

Dean Trygstad, formerly of Montevideo, died on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 82.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 1:30 PM  at the Watson Lutheran Church in Watson, MN with Rev. Larry Olson officiating.  Interment will be in the Oldham Cemetery in Oldham, SD.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Dean Calvin Trygstad was born on September 8, 1924 near Oldham, SD to Fredrick and Mary (Eske) Trygstad.  He was baptized in October, 1924 and confirmed in 1938 at the Oldham Lutheran Church and attended rural schools.  He spent his early years helping his parents farm near Oldham.  He worked for 26 years as a field agent with the Federal Crop Insurance Corp. in South Dakota and neighboring states.  He also worked as an adjustor for Crop Hail Management and American Agricultural Insurance. In November of 1965 he was united in marriage to Dana Krog in Aurora, NB and she died of cancer in 1975. He was united in marriage to Beverly Thibodeaux in September of 1976 in Arlington, SD and she died on cancer in 1982.  On June 27, 1987 he was united in marriage to Donna Lund in Montevideo, MN.  He lived in Montevideo until moving to the Clara City Nursing Home in 1997.  He was a member of the Watson Lutheran Church and the Watson Lions Club, serving a term as Secretary/Treasurer.  His hobby was music and even had his own dance band for 25 years in eastern South Dakota, playing Old Tyme and Country Western Music.  He loved to sing and play the guitar as well as gardening and flowers..  He also enjoyed high school sports and was given the Loyal Fan Award in Lake Preston, SD for the year 1989- 1990.

He is survived by his wife Donna; a son, Jayme (and Rebecca)Trygstad of Volga, SD; a grandson Skylar Trygstad; four step-children: Mark Lund of Montevideo, Lynnette Taylor of Madison, SD, Mitch Alfson of Lafayette, IN, and Alan Alfson of Lake Havasu , AZ and several step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first two wives: Dana and Beverly; and two brothers: Lyle and Merlin Trygstad.
