Delores Winge, one of 12 children, was born at home on July 14, 1920 in Chippewa County, Minnesota to Carl and Ida (Laumb) Jerve. She was baptized and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo and attended a one-room country school within walking distance of the farm where she grew up
Delores was united in marriage to Birdeen Winge (the guy with the brown eyes) on September 11, 1943 in Big Bend, Minnesota. They lived in South Dakota for five years and then farmed near Dawson for 17 years. When Delores wasn’t cooking and baking for her family, she made potato klub at Marvel’s Café in Dawson. They moved to Montevideo in 1969 where Delores continued to work as a cook at the hospital and three different schools, retiring at the age of 70. Delores was a longtime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She loved playing buck euchre, embroidering, having coffee, visiting with friends and babysitting her grandchildren.
Delores is survived by five children: JoAnn Vonderharr (Tom) of Minneapolis; Linda Greseth (Orlyn) of Alexandria; Barbara Jordahl (Gary) of Montevideo; Nancy Tostenson (Lonny) of Montevideo and Kevin Winge (Kevin Shores) of Montevideo and Minneapolis; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Oma Fairchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Birdeen; and daughter and son-in-law: Mary and Eric Steenson.
Delores moved to Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo where she thrived until her death. The family suggests memorials to the Jevnaker Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice.
