Deloris Thompson, of Milan, died Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 86.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 10:30AM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristine Isder officiating.
Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday one hour prior to service.
Deloris Ann (Borstad) Thompson was born on August 23, 1930 in Madison Township, Lac qui Parle County to Joseph and Sylvia (Moen) Borstad. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter. She attended Dawson High School and graduated in 1948. Following graduation she moved to the Twin Cities where she worked for Pillsbury and as a mail girl. She met William Thompson and they were married at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter on June 19, 1955. They made their home in Milan where they raised four children. Deloris worked for her husband in the store in Milan as a store clerk until they retired in 1995. She would go on to work as the scale house manager at the Milan Beet Pile.
Deloris loved being active in the lives of her family and community. She volunteered for many committees and organizations She was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, greeter coordinator and a member of the WELCA. She was active in the Milan Legion Auxiliary, Milan Women’s Club, Cub Scout Leader, Red Cross Blood Drive Volunteer and Hospice Volunteer.
To say Deloris lived life to the fullest would be an understatement. Her family recalls that she was always welcoming guests in her home and encouraged her family to be accepting of all people. She enjoyed playing cards especially bridge, walking, baking, canning, traveling, dancing, and listening to music. By far her favorite activity was spending time with her family and friends, especially at the lake. She cherished her time spent with her grandchildren.
Deloris is survived by her husband, William; her children: Mark (Ryoko) Thompson, Fukuoka City, Japan, David (Kim) Thompson, Milan, Steve (special friend Sue Gee) Thompson, Milan, Ann (Ron Porep) Thompson, Milan; grandchildren: Jaime (Craig) Berghorst, Melissa (Donavin) Anderson, Angela (Dominic) Sweetman; great-grandchildren: Madisen, Cade, Bricen and Kyler Berghorst, and Bryce Anderson; brothers: Stuart (Marlys) Borstad, Madison and Roger Borstad, Dawson; as well as other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Sylvia Borstad; brother Merlin (Donna) Borstad; sister, Dorothy Olsten; and sisters-in-law: Grace Borstad and Peggy (Thompson) Heddelson.
