Delos Omer Gulden was born on July 30, 1930 in Mandt Township of Chippewa County, MN to Oscar and Fern (Underwood) Gulden. He grew up in the Montevideo area and graduated from Montevideo Senior High in 1948, playing both football and baseball in school. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On December 31, 1950, he was united in marriage to Jean Lawrence at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN. They moved to Canby in 1957, living there until moving to Watertown, SD in 1969. He worked as the manager of the Co-op Grain Elevator in Canby. In Watertown he worked for Arrowhead Seeds (Dakota Seed and Grain) and 81 Roofing Co. They returned to Montevideo in 2006.
Throughout his life, his three main priorities were family, family, and family. Delos was a Boy Scout volunteer, a volunteer fireman, and he enjoyed bowling and sang in a barbershop quartet while in Watertown. He was an avid turkey hunter. He was adept at all sorts of puzzles and successfully thwarted our repeated attempts at finding a puzzle he could not solve. In the Gulden tradition, he started each day with a crossword puzzle. He rarely missed viewing a Twins or Vikings game from the comfort of his La-Z Boy chair. Delos spent many hours researching and organizing the Gulden genealogy.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; seven sons: David (and Janet) Gulden of Apple Valley, MN; Gary (and Julie) of Golden Valley, MN; Kevin (and Sue) of Plymouth, MN; Bryan (and Ann Haugen) of St. Paul, MN; Scot of Bloomington, MN; Dennis (and Kay) of Riverside, CA; and Steven (and Kirsten) of Bloomington, MN; fourteen grandchildren: Andrew (and Melissa), Amy, Michael (and Kelin Loe) Rachel, Jacey, Madison, Hanna, Anthony, Nathan, Jennifer, Olivia, James, Bjorn and Thor; one great granddaughter, Sofia and a second one on the way; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving son of Oscar and Fern Gulden. Preceding him in death were his brothers: Stanley, LeRoy, Daryl, Lyle and Marlin Gulden.
