Dennis Dean Harberts

October 8, 1946 — April 1, 2015

Dennis Dean  Harberts of Montevideo, (formerly of Dawson) died Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 68.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Dawson with Rev. Herbert Rotunda officiating.  Interment will be in the Dawson Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Dennis Dean Harberts was born October 8, 1946  to Clarence and Irene (Van Briesen) Harberts of rural Dawson.  He was baptized at home on October 15, 1950.  He attended grade school in district # 58 in Yellow Medicine County and Dawson High School. He is a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Dawson.  He joined the Minnesota National Guard in 1967 and took his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and was discharged in June of 1978.  He began his trucking career driving for Daniels of Hutchinson, MN - driving cross country and later purchased his trucks driving local and long distance.  He took great pride in his trucks and his work.   He enjoyed collecting pens, caps, and belt buckles.  Dennis especially enjoyed listening to polka and old time music and going to polka fests. On October 24, 2014 he entered Luther Haven and was happy to say that was his home.

He is survived by 10 siblings: Beverly and Gerald Willis of Madison, Roger and Carol Harberts of Madison, Delores and Donald Ochs of Montevideo, twin brother, Douglas Harberts of Canby, Bonnie and Rod Portele of Darwin, Linda and Roger Tollakson of Dawson, Judy and Roger Mead of Dawson, Ilene Lehmann of Boyd; brother-in-law, Michael Erp of Canby, Shirley and Melvin Svoboda of Canby, and Debra and Duane Mead of Granite Falls; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Curtis Harberts; a sister, Cheryl Harberts Erp; sister-in laws: Ardyce Harberts, Linda Harberts, Kay Harberts; a brother-in-law,  DuWayne Lehmann; and an infant nephew, Travis Erp.
