Dennis Eugene Johnson was born on April 8, 1941 in Montevideo, MN to Darrell and Ethel (Christenson) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1959. On February 17, 1962 , he was united in marriage to Dianna Manthey. They lived in Murdock, Willmar and Pennock, MN and in California for a short time before being drawn back to Montevideo, where they raised their family. Dennis transported mobile homes for over 20 years and loved being an independent leased trucker. After parking his truck this fall, he worked for Viessman Bros. Trucking hauling sugar. He was a lifelong member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to auctions and garage sales, where he never bought junk. Dennis enjoyed being with his family and tried to be home from trucking for all family events. Having coffee with his brothers was always a priority if he was home and his love for children was never ending. Dennis loved to take something broken or old and make it run like new; rebuilding a mobile home, a motor home, a boat and was working on a pontoon. In the last few years, his favorite hours were spent camping at Norway Lake, where his children were teaching him how to relax and enjoy fishing and boating. Dennis always tried to keep his father’s memory alive for his siblings by sharing memories of him, knowing that his dad would have enjoyed their accomplishments and their individual humor.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Daniel Johnson of Casselton, ND; two daughters: Darcy Johnson of Montevideo and Denise Arneson and her husband Duane of Great Mills, MD; his mother, Ethel Johnson of Montevideo; one sister, Deanna (Bob) Grant of Milan, MN; and four brothers: Doran (Kathy) Johnson of Eagan, MN; Duane (Caren) Johnson, Dwight (Nancy) Johnson, and Dale (Janis) Johnson all of Montevideo, MN.
Preceding him in death was his father.
Dennis’ laugh, smile, and warmth will be missed forever, but we know that he will be watching us through the holes in the floor of heaven.
