Dennis L. Olson of Dawson, died Monday morning, March 28,2016 at his rural home at the age of 72.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter and Pastor Brooke Apple officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday

Dennis L. Olson was born in Graceville, Big Stone County of MN to Clifford J. and Olga R. (Bratten) Olson on August 16, 1943. He was baptized at home in Odessa, MN and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville. He graduated from Odessa High School. Dennis was united in marriage to Joan Kasperson. To this union three children were born. They lived in Moorhead while he attended Moorhead State and earned a degree in math and science. Shortly after starting to teach in Dawson in 1965, he went on to further his education earning his masters degree at East Texas State University in Broadfield Science in 1970 with a scholarship from the National Science Foundation. They lived in Commerce, TX for those three summers. Dennis retired from teaching in Spring of 1998. Dennis always enjoyed hunting and fishing first with his friends and now with his grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking and had made several pieces of furniture for their home. Coin collecting, which was encouraged by his aunt Pearl, was another favorite hobby. He loved antiquing and going to auctions and then selling his finds on ebay. Dennis was always willing to help friends. Over the years, he enjoyed spending time at their Alexandria lake home and at the farm in Dawson enjoying the wild life. Dennis was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Joan; three children: Pam (Philip) Wawra of Prescott, WI, Rick Olson of Golden Valley, MN and Steve (Pam) Olson of Ramsey, MN; six grandchildren: Kaitlin Wawra, Nicole Wawra, Devin Olson, Megan (Olson) Ressler, Dustin Steinbrecher, and Tiffany Kubasch; a great-granddaughter, Layla Steinbrecher; a brother: Tom (Skip) Olson of Jamestown, ND; and nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Olga in 1996 and father, Clifford in 2000.
