Dennis O. Olson, of Montevideo, died Tuesday December 9, 2014 at Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 81.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. at Big Bend Lutheran Church. Rev. Keith Long will officiate and interment will be in Big Bend Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 5 to 7 P.M. at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home and at the church for one hour before services.
Dennis O. Olson was born on April 8, 1933. He was the youngest of eight children born to Oscar and Helga (Hansen) Olson. He lived his entire life on the farm where he was born. Dennis was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church. He graduated from Milan High School in 1951. He married Beatrice Berven on June 12, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Watson.
Dennis always enjoyed building replica wooden buildings, as well as fixing, rebuilding or making toy machinery from scratch. Dennis has served on the Big Bend Township Board, NFO member, MN Valley Antique Power Association, Big Bend Farmers Union Board, and Milan Farmers Elevator Board. Dennis was an active member of Big Bend Lutheran having served on the church council, board of education, and as financial secretary. He and Beatrice just recently retired as church custodians after serving 7 ½ years. Dennis enjoyed Ole and Lena jokes and camping by Alexandria for many years. Even though retired, he spent many years out in the fields with his sons.
Dennis was proud to have shared his life with his wife of over sixty years, Beatrice; they had three children: Janice (Ken) Sietsema Beyerl of Raymond, Gary (Sandy) Olson of Montevideo, and Delane (Judy Suckow-Olson) Olson of Holloway, MN; 15 grandchildren: Brian (friend Melissa), Cory (Ashley), Aaron (Cindy) Sietsema, Tracy (Andrew) Neville, Kelsey (Jacob) Primus, Brittany (friend Josh) Olson, Katey Olson, Amanda (Eric) Behr, Amy (Justin) Schulz, Alyssa Olson, Adrian (friend Justin) Olson, Jacob (friend Samantha) Suckow, David (Angie) Beyerl, Brian (Randi) Beyerl and Aaron (Michelle) Beyerl; 14 great-grandchildren: Ava, Daniel, Mason, Mari, Noah, Domonic, Ali, Morgan, Brady, Brooklyn, Kade, Avery, Ella, and Savannah; a sister, Hazel Miller; brothers-in-law: Ernie Streed of Milan and David (Diane) Berven of Milan.
Preceding him in death his parents; two brothers: Lauris and Verdie Olson; four sisters: Martha Blom, Florence Vellekson, Arlene Streed, and Rudell Jahn; and a son-in-law, Duane Sietsema.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Big Bend Lutheran Church or their favorite charity.
