Dolores Windingstad died Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 97.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Providence Valley Lutheran Church.  Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate and interment will be in the church cemtery.

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before services.  Arrangements are with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.

Dolores Lucille (Hoyles) Windingstad was born September 10, 1927 at Marietta, MN the daughter of William and Amy (McCaskey) Hoyles.  She was baptized at Gethsemane Episcopal Church and a member of Marietta Congregational Church.  She attended rural school in Garfield Township and graduated from Madison High School and later from Mankato State College with an elementary education degree.  She taught rural school in Lac qui Parle and Yellow Medicine Counties as well as Madison Elementary School.  On July 20, 1953, she was united in marriage with Harold Windingstad, Jr. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson.

Throughout most of her life, she was a member of Providence Valley Lutheran Church where she helped in Sunday School and Bible School.  She participated in Ladies Aid and helped with Bible studies.  Her interest in education was furthered by serving a term on the Teacher's Standards and Certification Commission, a term on the Professional Teaching Practices Commission, and was instrumental in starting the Board of Teaching which she served two terms on as an MEA Member.  She was a member of NEA, MEA, and the Madison Education Association.  She was active in Farmer's Union locally and statewide with her husband.  They were active in DFL Politics where she was privileged to attend two national conventions and President Carter's inauguration.

She loved to travel and visited 49 states as well as traveling to the home of her father in Peterborough, England, the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany, Halifax, New Foundland where her father entered this country, and the Windingstad farm in Norway.  She also enjoyed reading.  Especially history, biography, and the Old Testament.

She is survived by five God-children: Cindy Breen, Denise Hoyles, Michael Bolstad, Tina Klosterboer, and David Bergeson; her brother, Dennis (Bonnie) Hoyles of Madison; and many nieces and nephews

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold in 2006; sisters: Dorothy (Joe) Bolstad, Marcia (Myles) Bergeson, Harriet (Jack) Shepherd, and Marion Thompson; and a brother, Henry (Lorraine) Hoyles.
