Donald was born June 27th, 1959 at the Dawson Hospital to Alden and Genevieve (Peterson) Bothun. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church. He grew up in the Dawson area and lived there his entire life. He enjoyed life on the farm while playing baseball, fishing, and having BB gun fights with his brothers. He was a 3-sport athlete that graduated from Dawson-Boyd High School in 1977. After attending Willmar Community College and playing football, he moved back to Dawson and started working at Dawson Mills (AGP) where he would work for 21 years. He married his high school sweetheart, LuAnn Liebl on April 21st, 1979 at the St. James Catholic church in Dawson. He and LuAnn would then go on to have a child or two.
Don was a hardworking man that would spend his days at AGP and enjoyed bartending at the Draw Bar. His favorite hobby was playing and umping softball. When he was no longer able to play the game himself, he couldn’t have been more proud when he passed on his love of the game to his 10 boys and daughter. Some of his favorite nights were spent up at the fields watching his kids play ball and socializing with the teams and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed working at Al’s Car Wash in Dawson and being a ‘ball spotter’ while golfing with his family and friends.
Don’s legacy is his loving wife LuAnn, his sons: Richard (Cori), Benjamin (Chelsie), David (Courtney), Thomas (Crystal), Luke (Carli), James, Jacob (Ashley), Michael (Samantha Henglefelt), Jordan, Donald Jr. and his daughter Mary.
