Donald Haugen, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 81. Memorial services will be conducted on Tuesday August 17, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in the Mandt Lutheran Cemetery. Donald Vincent Haugen was born on May 15, 1929 in Montevideo, MN to Oluf and Henrietta (Gilbertson) Haugen. He was baptized and confirmed at Mandt Lutheran Church of rural Montevideo and graduated from Starbuck High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany. On July 31, 1953 he was united in marriage to Rudella Pederson in Montevideo. He drove truck for Randy's Meat in Montevideo. In 1966 they moved to Escondido, CA. where he worked in a fruit factory and especially with avocados. They returned to MN, in 1968 where he worked on several turkey farms in the Glenwood and Villard areas. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts in Montevideo and liked to golf, fish and do woodworking. He remained in his own home until falling on June 7, 2010 and was hospitalized and then transferred to Luther Haven. He is survived by his wife Rudella; two sisters: Irma Halstead of Alexandria, MN and Wanda Fostervold of Willmar, MN; a sister-in-law, Dolores Haugen of Montevideo, MN as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Orton Haugen; and by sisters: Harriette Sexton, Rosalie Sorenson, Margaret Fiala, and Evelyn Knoll.
