Donald Jacobs, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 84. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Montevideo with Fr. Jim Devorak the celebrant. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer vigil at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Donald Eugene Jacobs was born on May 29, 1926 in Montevideo, MN to John and Dana (McDonald) Jacobs. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1944. On August 14, 1944 he entered the US Army. He served in the 6th Armored Division under General Patton, fought in the Battle of The Bulge and helped liberate Buchenwald Concentration Camp. On June 7, 1947 he was united in marriage to Helen Lofthus at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis. He worked as a livestock dealer and worked at the Cenex Agronomy Dept. from 1978 until retiring in 2005. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish. He enjoyed working around the yard and feeding birds and squirrels. He is survived by his wife, Helen; children: Craig (and En) Jacobs of St. Cloud, MN, Michael (and Mary) Jacobs of Marshall, MN, Barbara (and Joe) Pate of Miami, FL, Kimberly (and Mike) Gulden of Prairie du Sac, WI, and Tom (and Sandy) Jacobs of Kansas City, MO; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Alice Jacobs of Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, LaVerne Churchill.
