Donald Milo Lindblad was born on March 4, 1937 to Melvin and Myrtle (Bothun) Lindblad in Madison, MN. Donald grew up the second of five siblings on the family farm in Maxwell Township, rural Dawson, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Mission Covenant Church. He attended school through 8th grade at District 72, a one room schoolhouse, and graduated from Dawson Public school in 1955. At the age of 17, Donald joined the Minnesota National Guard and continued to serve part-time for 9 years.
Donald married Patricia Anne Nelson of Clarkfield on November 26, 1960. They were blessed with five children: Kevin, Kimberly, Kristyn, Karla and Kandyce. They enjoyed their life on the family farm with Donald being the 3rd generation to farm the land. He took great enjoyment in working alongside his son and looked forward to a 5th generation of Lindblads to farm the land someday.
Throughout his farming career, Donald was also involved with many organizations including Farm Bureau, Minnesota Corn Processors, County Corn and Soybean Association, the Dawson-Boyd School Board, Maxwell Town Board and the Dawson Covenant Church serving as chairman, trustee, deacon, usher and youth leader throughout the years.
Donald loved spending time with his family at their cabin on Nest Lake. He also enjoyed attending numerous sporting and music events for his grandchildren. Early in his retirement, he spent many mornings having coffee in town, and in later years he enjoyed having friends to his home for coffee.
In 2005, Donald became paralyzed from a sudden onset of Transverse Myelitis which drastically changed his life. A year after returning home from his hospitalization, he and Pat moved off the farm and into their twin home in Dawson. Donald was able to remain in his own home for many years with the help of wonderful caregivers. While he was still able to drive, he continued to be involved in the farm by giving rides, delivering meals, and offering advice. He loved to spend time on his own exploring the countryside. As he became more dependent on others, one of Donald’s favorite pastimes was going for a ride to look at fields and stopping for a chat with Kevin.
Donald is survived by his wife Pat Lindblad; children: Kevin and Kim Lindblad, Kimberly and Kelly VanWeelden, Kristyn and Jeff Wicht, Karla and Jerrad Perkins, and Kandyce and Jeremy Gross; grandchildren: Kassi and Scott Albertson, Kruiz, Kendra, Karson and Kolten Lindblad, Jasmine and Jager VanWeelden, Kannon and Keegon Wicht, Justin, Jordon, Kadyn and Kreed Perkins, Kyler and Kendyl Gross; great-grandchildren: Kensley and Kaelynn Albertson; sister Doris and Valgean Storlien; brother David and Marie Lindblad; brother-in-law Wayne Peterson; sisters-in-law Linda Sletten and Cindy Jacobson; godson Richard Menden; many nieces and nephews; and special caregivers Rhonda Nelson, Pegi Harberts, Missy Roszak, Kim Fonkert and numerous others who provided great care. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Myrtle Lindblad, sisters Joyce Peterson and Carol Anderson, grandson Jake Lindblad Perkins, mother and father-in-law Milton and Berneil Jacobson, and brothers-in-law Bill Nelson and Carl Sletten.
Donald will forever be remembered for his loving kindness, his generosity, his witty sense of humor and his incredible patience. He lived his life as a witness for the Lord, which was his greatest gift of all. Donald Milo Lindblad died on June 23, 2019 at the age of 82. He entered his heavenly home while surrounded by his earthly family who love him dearly. Blessed be his memory.
