Donna Mae (Ihrke) Winge

Donna Winge, of Dawson, died Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, MN at the age of 92.

Public visitation and viewing will be held Friday, November 6, 2020 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.  Masks and social distancing will be required.

Private graveside services will be held.

Donna Mae Ihrke was born May 11, 1928 in Watertown, SD to parents William and Mabelle (Schwanke) Ihrke at Altamont, SD.  She grew up on the home farm and attended 8 years of grade school and then graduated from Watertown, SD High School.  After high school she attended Northern State in Aberdeen, SD.  She taught rural school for 3 years in Deuel County, SD.

On June 19, 1949 she married Ruben Winge of Dawson, MN in St Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.  They lived one year in Dawson and then moved to a farm in Cerro Gordo Township in rural Dawson.  They farmed and Ruben did road grading for many years.  They had four children: Robert (Rebecca) Winge, West Fargo, ND, Vicki (Dennis) Winge Kohlman, Appleton, MN, Denise Winge Schilling, Dawson, MN, and Gary Winge, Montevideo, MN.

During their 50 plus years on the farm Donna always had a large garden and raised flowers.  She was a member of Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church WELCA and her circle.  She was a Dawson VFW and Dawson American Legion Auxiliary member.  She also was an Eastern Star member in Dawson and Madison for many years.

Donna and Ruben were 4-H leaders for several years.  They moved to Prairie West apartments in Dawson in 2005 in retirement.

Donna is survived by her 4 children and 7 grandchildren: Sarah Winge (Eric Handler), Alameda, CA, Leah Winge, West Fargo, ND, Nathan Winge, Fargo, ND, Michael Winge (Ashley Nelson), Fergus Falls, MN, Michael (Hope) Mammele, Dawson, MN, Samantha Quigley, Maple Grove, MN, Kirsten (Tyler) Bowe, Chippewa Falls, WI; great-grandchildren, Dominic Quigley, Landon Winge, Mckenna and Sophia Bowe, Kara and Lauren Mammele, Kieran Handler, and Owen Winge; sister, Ramona Nelson as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ruben; brothers, Gaylord, Harlan, and Larry; son-in-law, Bruce Schilling; great-grandchildren, Adeline Handler and Phillip Quigley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Manford and Josie Winge; sister-in-law, Avis Harris and Sonja Winge; and brother-in-law, Paul Winge.
