Doris Folkestad, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN at the age of 84. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Tim Ehling officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:45 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Doris Lorraine (Osatlie) Folkestad was born on May 25, 1926 in Tunsberg Township of Chippewa County, MN to A.T. and Cora (Lund) Ostlie. She was baptized on July 24, 1926 and confirmed on June 23, 1940, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Watson. She attended rural schools and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1944. She took Normal Training in Montevideo. On August 24, 1947 she was united in marriage to Stanley Folkestad at Immanuel Lutheran. She worked for a number of years as a teacher in rural schools and later worked in sales and as a bookkeeper in the family business. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in church circle. She had been a member of a sewing club, birthday club and was active in the PTA. She enjoyed golf, sewing, flower gardening, camping, bird watching, walking, canning, cooking and baking and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and cheering them on in their activities. She is survived by her husband, Stanley; six children: Sharon (and Bob) Black of Minnetonka, MN, LuAnn (and Mike) Gesell of Alexandria, MN, Duane (and Colleen) Folkestad of Montevideo, Gwen (and Mike) Grunke of Crystal, MN, Sue (and Gary) Heikes of Montevideo and Jane Folkestad of Rice, MN; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Earl (and Lillian) Ostlie and Clarence (and Evie) Ostlie, both of Montevideo; a sister, Sylvia Lee of Dawson, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Roy and Floyd Ostlie and by a sister, Alice Ostlie.
