Doris died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at her home in Dawson at the age of 87.
Memorial service was Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 1:30 PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home with Pastor Herbert Rotunda officiating; scripture lessons were Psam 23, Micah 6:6-8 and Matthew 25:31-46; grandson, Matthew Watt played “Prayer” as a trombone solo and Doug and Sharilyn Bates sang “The Old Rugged Cross.” Interment was in the Dawson Cemetery.
Doris Twite was born October 27, 1924 at Dawson, MN the daughter of Halvor and Hannah (Erickson) Melom. She attended Dawson schools and graduated from high school in 1944. She met her husband, Al, while working at the Farmer’s Co-op Creamery. She was united in marriage with Ronald “Al” Twite September 18, 1955 in Dawson. They had three children. Gregory (who died on September 21, 1962, at the age of six), Ronald, and Marcia. Al and Doris owned and operated Al-Dor Produce and a Ward’s catalog agency for many years. Doris worked at the Johnson Memorial Nursing Home in Dawson for several years, first as a Dietary Aid and then as a cook. Al died November 12, 2004. Doris enjoyed playing Rummy with her grandchildren and baking lefse. In her retirement years she enjoyed knitting and became known for the hats and mittens that she sent around the country to be donated to needy children.
She is survived by a son, Ronald of Minneapolis; a daughter, Marcia (Kevin) Watt of Yankton, SD; four grandchildren: Emily (Shane) Harriman of Wagner, SD, Katie, Sara, and Matthew of Yankton, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Al, a son, Greg; three sisters; and one brother.
