Doris Risa Koenen, of Clarkfield, died Friday, December 24, 2021 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 94.

Doris June (Erickson) (Risa) Koenen was born December 3, 1927 in rural Hanley Falls, the daughter of Daniel and Gunda Erickson. She was born during a snowstorm on the family farm which resulted in the doctor having to stay with the family for three days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. She attended Hanley Falls, MN high school and Miss Woods Education Academy (now a part of Macalaster College). She taught school in Wells, MN.
She married Arlen Risa on June 25, 1949 and had five children: Dean Kristine, Michael, Arvid, and Annette. Doris was a farm wife, and dedicated mother. She was especially proud of her Norwegian heritage and belonged to the Sons of Norway for over 50 years. She was well known for her baking of Norwegian delicacies, which she shared with many friends and relatives. Doris and Marvin Koenen were married December 25, 1987 at Clarkfield Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children: Dean (Rebecca) Risa, Kristine (Anthony) Kurley, Michael (Debra) Risa, Arvid (special friend Janeen Taverine), and Annette (Terry) Viessman; seven grandchildren: Erik Risa, Amy (Brent) Meulebroeck, Michael Kurley, Ryan Risa, Lauren Velde, Trig (Sarah) Viessman, Matt (Kayla) Viessman; six great-grandchildren: Collin & Maddison Risa, Tanner & Kiley Viessman, Rylin & Ragan Viessman; step-children: Judy (Bill) Stenberg and family and Larry Koenen; a cousin Larry (Linda Sallee) Molsather; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Arlen Risa in 1978, husband, Marvin Koenen in 2015, an infant sister Maybelle; and sister and brother-in-law, Gudrun and Don Brauer
