Dorothy Bonn Axness, 90, of Montevideo, died July 28, 1997 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 2, 1997 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rev. Norman Aronson will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 5-7:00 P.M. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before services on Saturday.
Dorothy Evelyn (Bonn) Axness was born November 11, 1906 in Montevideo, MN the daughter of Bernt and Bertha (Aaberge) Bonn. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo and graduated from High School in 1924. Dorothy was a public stenographer in Denver, CO from 1924 to 1926 when she enrolled at the University of Minnesota. She was affiliated with the Alpha Eta chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority and played on the basketball team at the University. Dorothy graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1930 with a major in French and psychology. She was the Deputy City Clerk in Montevideo for 16 years until her marriage to Arthur J. Axness in 1948. They lived in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Duluth before returning to Montevideo. They moved to Minneapolis in 1965 until retiring back to Montevideo in 1973. She was active at Our Savio's Lutheran Church where she taught Bible School, served on the Visiting Committee for 40 years, and was chairman of the dining room for lutefisk dinners. Arthur died in December of 1993.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Viola Falk of Montevideo, MN; eight nieces and nephews: Beverly and Nelson Jonnes of Stillwater, MN, Stephen and Kay Bonn of Niceville, FL, Susan Quella of Rochester, MN, David and Jeanine Bonn of Plymouth, MN, Bonn and Vernelle Clayton of Chanhassen, MN, Harold and LaRue Clayton of Shoreview, MN, James Clayton of Willmar, MN, and Alice and Roger Stehn of Spicer, MN; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Arthur; four sisters: Dottie, Madeline, Vernice "Bunnie", and Beatrice; and two brothers: Bert and Orville "Jack".
