Dorothy Harbour, formerly of Maynard and Montevideo, died on Friday, November 22, 2002 at the Clara City Care Center at the age of 91.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 25, 2002 at 1:00 PM at the Maynard Presbyterian Church in Maynard with Rev. Beverly Crute officiating. Burial will be in the Granite Falls City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening and with the family from 3 - 5 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Dorothy Lucille (Curtis) Harbour was born on October 16, 1911 in Gillett Township of Clay County, Iowa to Arthur and Hazel (Cook) Curtis. As a youth the family moved to the Maynard area, where she graduated from Maynard High School as Salutatorian in 1928. On September 3, 1930 she was united in marriage to William (Bill) Harbour in Montevideo. They farmed in rural Clara City and Maynard during their married life. Bill died on November 11, 1968. She worked for J.C. Penney and the Maynard Post Office, from which she retired. She was a member of the Maynard Presbyterian Church, was a very active member of the Ladies Aid Society and held the offices of Treasurer and Elder of the Church. She was a member of the Green Feather Whist Club, the garden club and Senior Citizens. Dorothy loved to travel, enjoying trips to Australia, England, Netherlands, Scotland and Germany. In her later years she was a resident at Parkview Towers in Montevideo and has been a resident of the Clara City Care Center since February, 2000.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Doris Smith and her husband Richard of Mason City, IA; Beth Christiansen and her husband Robert of Deer River, MN and Mavis Keilen and her husband Jim of Deer River, MN; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 step great- grandchildren, 2 step great-great-grandchildren, a great-great- grandchild due in December, sisters-in-law, Myrtle Kreckow of Redwood Falls, MN and Faye Curtis of Alturas, CA; as well as by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill in 1968; a grandson, Tim Smith; a brother, Art Curtis; and by sisters: Verna Potter, Madge Curtis, Adelaide Hegnauer and Inez Tallard.
