Dorothy Oddan, of Minneapolis and formerly of Dawson, died Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Mount Olivet Home in Minneapolis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 27at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with Father Brian Oestreich as celebrant. Interment will be in the Appleton Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour before the services at the church.
Dorothy Veronica (Monnens) Oddan was born July 28, 1921 at Isabel, SD the daughter of Frank and Gertrude (Stapert) Monnens. She grew up in Isabel, SD and moved to Minnesota near Lac qui Parle Lake in 1934. She was united in marriage with Orrin Oddan November 26, 1940 in Montevideo, MN. They farmed near Milan before moving into town in 1949 and then moved to Dawson in 1964. She worked as a seamstress for many years. Dorothy enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and other hand crafts.
She is survived by two sons: Merlin (Diane) Oddan of Fairmont and Lyle (Jayne) Oddan of Chaska; five daughters: Veronna Dickey of Minneapolis, Kathleen (Gene) Ruff of Bloomington, Ruth (Mike) Dickey of Bloomington, Arlys Schuelke of Welch, and Dolores (Tim) Stewart of Arlington, SD; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; two sisters: Leona (Stan) Karels of Melrose and Stella Bombeck of Willmar; a sister-in-law, Patsy Monnens of Gillette, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Orrin, February 2, 1994; a daughter, Joyce; two grandchildren: Teresa Dickey and Mark Schuelke; a son-in-law, Ted Dickey; six brothers: Ed, Robert, Earl, Art, Francis “Stub”, and Raymond Monnens; and two sisters: Mary Monnens and Laura Karels.
