Dorothy Gwen (Birkland) Teig

Dorothy Teig, 76, of Montevideo died November 26, 1998 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 30, 1998 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with  Rev. Warren Broughton officiating.

Services will then be at 3:00 P.M. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield, MN with Rev. Warren Broughton and Rev. Gary Anderson officiating.  Burial will be in the Lakefield Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M.

Dorothy Gwen (Birkland) Teig was born January 20, 1922 at Lakefield, MN the daughter of L.C.M. and Sylvia (Rasmussen) Birkland.  She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield and she graduated from Lakefield High School in 1940.  Dorothy was united in marriage with Kermit Teig June 5, 1946 in Lakefield.  They farmed for 12 years and moved to Montevideo, MN in 1959.  They owned and operated Teigs Book Center and in 1970 she began working as a teachers aide at Sanford Elementary School until she retired in 1985.  Dorothy was very active at both Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield and at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  She taught Sunday School, was a Deaconess, sang in the Ladies Choir, and held several offices in her circle and the WELCA organization.  Dorothy was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Kermit; three children: Gerald Teig and his wife Diane of Landenberg, PA, Lois Nordby of Montevideo, MN, and Philip Teig and his wife Janell of Granite Falls, MN; three grandchildren: Heather, Holly, and Amanda Teig of Landenberg, PA; three sisters: Margaret Nerge, Kathryn Costello, and Elaine Birkland all of Lakefield, MN; two brothers: John (Gladys) Birkland of Lakefield, MN and Halvor (Audrey) Birkland of West St. Paul, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Boletha Burks.
