Dorothy Mae (Brakefield) Young

Dorothy Young died Thursday, May 15, 2003 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, MN at the age of 97.

Memorial services will be held Monday, May 19, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at the Watson Evangelical church in Watson with Pastor Ken Brakefield and Pastor Robert Syvertson officiating.  Memorial service will also be held Saturday, May 24, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Colbert Chapel in Colbert, WA with Pastor Bob Warren officiating.  Burial will be at Fairmont Memorial Cemetery in Spokane, WA.

Dorothy Mae (Brakefield) Young was born May 7, 1906 at Colbert, WA the daughter of John and Esther (Allen) Brakefield.  She moved with her family to Montana before moving to Wisconsin.  Dorothy graduated from the 8th grade at Monroe, WI and later returned to Montana.  Dorothy was united in marriage with Floyd Young July 30, 1929 at Ekalaka, MT.  They made their home in the Baker, MT area before moving to Colbert, WA in the late 1930's.  They lived there until moving to Minnesota in 1987.  She always enjoyed her church and also enjoyed reading and singing.

She is survived by one daughter, Gail (Bob) Buchanan of Watson, MN; six grandchildren: Brenda (Fred) Chyr, Daryl (Sun) Young, Allen Buchanan, David (Amy Rager) Buchanan, Robert (Tani) Buchanan, and Sandi Buchanan; nine great-grandchildren: Connor Chyr, Abby Young, Caleb Young, Ariel Buchanan, Jeremiah Buchanan, Nina Buchanan, Kenian Leviet, Shiana Buchanan, and AnderaRose Buchanan; two brothers: Charlie of Spokane, WA and Dick (Helen) of Colbert, WA; and two sisters: Ruth Sperling of Spokane, WA and Esther Farrell of Tacoma, WA.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Floyd in 1989; one son, Allen in 1966; one great-granddaughter, Grace Buchanan; and three sisters: Carrie Judd, Mary Milward, and Beatrice Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Allen Young Memorial Chapel.
