Dorraine Thompson of Montevideo, died on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Home Front First in Montevideo at the age of 85.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:00 am at Big Bend Lutheran Church, rural Milan. Rev. Donald S. McKee will officiate and burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 5-7 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church one hour prior to the service.
Dorraine Elois (Galow) Thompson was born December 6, 1936 in Omro Township, Yellow Medicine County, MN the daughter of Eddie and Clara (Loose) Galow. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Omro Township. Dorraine attended St. John’s religious school through 8th grade and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1955 and was a football cheerleader. She was united in marriage to Wesley Thompson April 21, 1957 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm in Big Bend Township, Chippewa County, MN. She was active in all aspects of being a farmer’s wife until they moved into Montevideo in 1996. They also spent a lot of time at their trailer at Lake Mary and Pelican Lake. In her younger years, she enjoyed roller skating and bowling. She was a 4-H leader, Vice-President of the Big Bend Lutheran WELCA for many years, a Sunday School teacher, helped with the church suppers, very active in Church Circle, spent many hours quilting at church, and also in charge of the kitchen at Heritage Hill Threshing Show for many years where she was a lifetime member. She was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching the entire family’s events. Dorraine loved to bake and collect recipes. She also enjoyed watching cooking shows on TV and Facebook. There were always chocolate chip cookies and Special "K" bars in the freezer. Even though she was full-blooded German, Dorraine was an excellent cook when it came to potato klub, lefse and all other Norwegian foods. Dorraine very much enjoyed collecting antiques, collector dolls and figurines. The coffee pot was always on for friends to visit.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Wesley; three children: Naomi Streed of Milan; Carmen (Steve) Haugen of Montevideo, and Jamey (Jill) Thompson of Montevideo; Grandchildren: Jeremy (Amy) Streed, Jesse (Dana) Streed, Laura (Kennard) Fellbaum, Eric (Emma) Haugen, Jordan (Kasidy) Thompson, Jared Thompson, and Jarvis Thompson. Great-grandchildren; Caden Williams, Brielle Streed, Evelyn Streed, Paige, Megan, Carly, and Brayden Fellbaum, Sophie Haugen, Emersyn Thompson, and baby girl Thompson due in August, niece Debbie (Jim) Pederson, and nephew-in-law Brad Ommen.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her in-laws: Oral and Idella Thompson; a son-in-law, Darrell Streed; a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Harold Weiss; a niece, Sheryl Ommen, and baby nephew Daniel Knutson.
