Douglas Steen

March 1, 1942 — May 31, 2019

Douglas Steen, of Montevideo, died on Friday, May 31, 2019 at his home at the age of 77.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Sam Kautz officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on the day of the service at the church.

Douglas Gene Steen was born at his home in Dawson, MN during a blizzard on March 1, 1942 to Clifford and Anna (Gravem) Steen.  Assisting his birth at home was his aunt Julia Anderson and her daughter Frances.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson.  He spent his childhood in the Dawson area and attended Dawson Public Schools.  In 1962 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Hegna in Clarkfield.  To this union four children were born: Mark, Steven, Gregory, and Michelle.  In 1977 he married Jill Curtiss in Montevideo and together they had one son, Jared, born in 1988.

Doug spent his entire working life as a truck driver, first for Robert Lee in Dawson starting at the age of 16, then Twite Trucking and in 1973 for Arlin Curtiss Trucking in Montevideo.  Doug enjoyed fishing and Minnesota sports teams: Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, and Lynx.  His number one passion was sprint car racing and the highlight of his life was being able to go to the Sprint Car Nationals in Knoxville, IA with his oldest son Mark, oldest grandson, Connor and youngest son Jared.  Most of all he loved his wife, kids, grandkids, his friends and his dog Maggie.  Family will cherish the memories of his living a good life and his indelible mark he made on those he loved and those who loved him.

Doug is survived by his wife, Jill; his children: Mark (Michaele) of Glencoe, MN, Steven (Deb) of Eden Prairie, MN, Gregory (Anne) of St. Bonifacious, MN, Michelle Moller of Glencoe, MN, Jared (Taylor), Montevideo, MN; grandchildren: Connor, Carter, Colton, Tanner, Spencer, Braydon;his brother Howard Steen, Yuma AZ; as well as extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Stanley and sister Ruth Ann Klein.

Blessed be his memory

In lieu of flowers family prefers memorials to Rice Hospice or Take a Kid Fishing program.
