Duane Curtis Thompson was born on March 15, 1927 in Hazel Run to Danford and Gina (Hognestad) Thompson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. Duane attended elementary school in Hazel Run from grades 1-8th.   He then attended school in Clarkfield and graduated in 1945.  Following graduation he served in the U.S. Army Air Force.   He married Ruth Tricker on June 18, 1950 at Hazel Run Lutheran Church.  They had three children: Mary, Robert, and Dean.

Duane was a farmer and enjoyed every aspect of farm life.  He retired from farming in 1995 and moved into Montevideo.  Duane was a lifelong member of Hazel Run Lutheran Church and continued to attend and volunteered at the church even after moving to Montevideo.  Duane served as a Trustee at the church as well as serving on the Hazel Run Township Board for several years. He also volunteered for several years at Luther Haven Breakfast.

Duane enjoyed wood carving, fixing what needed to be fixed  and having coffee with friends.  He  would spend time visiting with friends and  getting to know about happenings in Hazel Run and later in Montevideo.  Above all, he loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild very much.  He was so happy when he became a great-grandfather.  Family will also remember Duane’s sense of humor and his good nature  teasing of  family and friends.

Duane is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth; children Mary (Lowell) Gilbertson of Flower Mound, TX and Dean (Julie) Thompson of Minnetonka, MN; 3 grandchildren: Leyna (Todd) Kaiser, Laird (Robin) Thompson, and Austin Thompson; one great-grandchild, Kaden Thompson; and a sister, Marjorie Reishus, Cottonwood, MN along with extended family and friends.
